About the funder

The Ministry for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development Lower Saxony (MB) is the state ministry responsible for the strategic management and coordination of European funding programs and regional state development in Lower Saxony. Through its four regional offices for regional state development (Braunschweig, Leine-Weser, Lüneburg, and Weser-Ems), the MB plans, consolidates, and supports tailored development and funding projects together with local stakeholders. The goal is to provide all regions of the state with equal opportunities for independent and sustainable development while integratively balancing economic, social, cultural, and ecological concerns.

Mission & Vision

The Ministry of the Interior is committed to promoting the potential of all regions in Lower Saxony by strategically utilizing European and state funds, initiating urban-rural cooperation, and supporting innovative projects. Through close coordination between the state government and the municipal level, the Ministry ensures efficient knowledge transfer and represents regional interests within state politics.

Target groups

The central target groups include municipalities, districts, companies, associations, and civil society organizations in Lower Saxony. In particular, towns and municipalities in rural areas are addressed, which, as basic or intermediate centers, provide for at least 10,000 inhabitants. These anchor centers are to be strengthened with the support of the MB in order to secure their supply functions (e.g., medical care, retail, culture) for their surrounding areas in the long term and to set regional development impulses.
