Description

The EU School Scheme in Brandenburg supports daycare centers, primary and secondary schools with a funding measure for the provision of drinking milk and lactose-free drinking milk. The goal is to enable children aged 6 to 17 to have regular access to high-quality foods and to promote a balanced diet as well as nutritional education. Through the daily portion of school milk, important nutrients such as calcium, high-quality protein, milk fats, vitamins, and minerals are provided, which are essential especially during growth phases. The funding also contributes to the development of healthy eating habits and aims to help secure the recommended intake of dairy products in everyday school and daycare settings on a lasting basis.

Eligible for funding are educational institutions, companies, and public institutions authorized under EU law by the State Office for Rural Development, Agriculture and Land Consolidation (LELF). A certificate of eligibility for participation in the EU School Scheme must be submitted. Billing is done via written applications at the beginning of the school year; direct applicants and school milk suppliers each submit declarations of interest and payment applications. The subsidy amounts to €0.80 per liter of school milk for the 2025/26 school year, with a maximum of 0.25 liters per child per day subsidized. Administrative controls ensure correct implementation; an EU school milk poster as well as further informational materials must be visibly displayed in the educational spaces. By participating, institutions commit to cooperating in evaluations to continuously assess and further develop the effectiveness of the program.
