Description

The Add-on Fellowships for Interdisciplinary Science and Transfer from the Joachim Herz Foundation offer committed scientists from engineering, economics, and life sciences across Germany flexible grants of up to €15,000 for a duration of 27 months (plus optionally up to €3,000 for equal opportunity measures). The aim is to strengthen interdisciplinary approaches within the thematic area “Resources of the Future” by further developing transfer potential. The funding covers a broad spectrum – from hardware and software, laboratory equipment, data acquisition and collection to conference and travel expenses, as well as scientific training, communication, and event organization. The funds are awarded in the form of a personal fellowship, which includes both financial support and opportunities for networking.

Eligible to apply are doctoral candidates, postdocs, and junior professors without tenure-track options who are employed or externally funded at a German university or non-profit research institution. Persons with previously reviewed project leadership in DFG, BMBF/TR, EU, or comparable programs are excluded. Selection is based on scientific excellence, societal relevance, interdisciplinarity, transfer potential, and a realistic budget plan. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis via an online form – including a motivation letter, project description, budget plan, CV, proof of achievements, and a statement from the supervising group. The Add-on Fellowships provide early career stages with a space for exchange, transfer, and long-term networking.
