Description

Additional activities for the European Biodiversity Partnership: Biodiversa+ support the continuation and expansion of the European Biodiversity Partnership Biodiversa+ through co-financing of transnational calls, biodiversity monitoring, and science policy advice. Through a “Financial Support to Third Parties” (FSTP) mechanism, measures for the restoration of peatlands, forests, and wetlands in line with the EU Restoration Regulation and the European Climate Law can be specifically supported. The funding acts as an amendment to existing HORIZON grant agreements (HORIZON-CL6-2021-BIODIV-02-01 and HORIZON-CL6-2023-BIODIV-01-18) and allows – in addition to additional partners – a coordinated pooling of national funds to ensure uniform implementation across the EU. The aim is to develop innovative solutions that stabilize natural carbon sinks, strengthen ecosystem functionality, and actively involve actors from communities, authorities, and NGOs in decision-making and implementation processes.

As a type of funding, a budget-based grant with a funding rate of 30% is awarded. The project duration is 36 months, with a total amount of €60 million (€20 million each for 2025, 2026, and 2027). Submissions are possible until 17 September 2025 via the Funding & Tenders Portal. Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations, public bodies, and educational institutions with proven experience in managing multi-year partnership programmes. Consortium partners from research, administration, environmental NGOs, and civil society networks have the opportunity to directly implement restoration and conservation projects or to act as coordination and call management entities. The evaluation is based on the relevance and innovativeness of the activities, the quality of coordination, as well as the leverage and sustainability potential of the partnership.
