Description
Named after the photographer and patron Ulrike Crespo, the prize annually honors two international artists in the field of photography and image-based media who engage with the interactions between humans, nature, and technology in the Anthropocene era. A total endowment of 80,000 euros provides the laureates not only with financial recognition but also the means to realize ambitious artistic concepts. Components of the award include exhibitions at C/O Berlin as well as at the Crespo Open Space in Frankfurt am Main, along with an accompanying publication that makes the innovative contributions accessible to a broad public.
The call is aimed at individuals with an artistic focus on ecology and the Anthropocene; applicants must submit works that open up new perspectives both conceptually and formally. The jury’s decision is based on artistic quality, degree of innovation, and potential for exhibitions and publication. The Crespo Foundation, a non-profit public law foundation based in Frankfurt, supports through this prize a sustainable engagement with environmental issues in contemporary photography. The program creates a space where artists can develop their potential and contribute to current discourses on nature and technology.
