Description
The “Societal Readiness Pilot” supports, within the framework of the Horizon Europe Innovation Action, the development of AI-based predictive algorithms and machine learning models to optimize bidirectional energy transfers. The goal is to manage collective self-supply processes in energy communities, support active consumers, and enhance grid stability in decentralized systems. The focus is on smart grid balancing strategies, game-theoretical analyses of social interactions, and practical demonstrations in real-world environments. Through an interdisciplinary approach, technical, societal, and economic aspects are interwoven. SSH experts accompany the providers during the Societal Readiness activities to strengthen trust in innovation outcomes and ensure societal acceptance.
Eligible for funding are project consortia consisting of at least three independent entities from different EU Member States or associated countries, including energy suppliers, grid operators, and research institutions. The funding amount is up to €6 million per project with 70% cost coverage, duration 36 months. Eligible expenses include personnel costs, subcontractor services, material/equipment costs, and travel; ineligible are real estate, retrospective costs, or debt settlement. The submission deadline is March 31, 2026, at 17:00 Brussels time. Application parts A (online), B (PDF), project description, financial plan, and lump-sum budget table must be submitted mandatorily. Applications will be evaluated based on innovation content, societal impact, and implementation quality. The European Commission monitors compliance with Horizon Europe regulations on AI ethics and data usage and expects active participation in the BRIDGE network.
