Description
The Herbert and Elsbeth Weichmann Foundation supports projects once a year aimed at researching political exile and strengthening the remembrance of democratic opposition. Within this framework, grants are awarded for academic events, publications, exhibitions, as well as subsidies for printing costs and travel expenses to archives. Funding is directed towards educational institutions, non-profit and public organizations, as well as individuals engaged in innovative research approaches in the field of exile. Selection is based on scientific quality, relevance to the topic of political exile, and the degree of innovation of the projects. Through its commitment, the foundation preserves the memory of resistance against National Socialist rule and promotes interdisciplinary discourse on experiences of flight and exile from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
Interested scholars, researchers, and organizers of conferences, readings, or exhibitions may submit project applications by March 1, 2026. Eligible expenses include, in addition to printing and material cost subsidies, travel expenses to archives and costs related to events. A thematic focus on political exile and alignment with the statutory purpose of the Herbert and Elsbeth Weichmann Foundation are prerequisites. Decisions on applications are made twice a year; awards are granted transparently according to established evaluation criteria. Through this broad-based support, the foundation makes a significant contribution to the research and public awareness of political exile experiences.
