Description

The funding initiative ARF – Broadband Austria 2030 aims to make a high-performance gigabit infrastructure widely available in Vienna and to advance innovative digital applications. Led by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sports – Section III Telecommunications and Post, the expansion strategy of the Broadband Strategy 2030 is supported through direct grants. The focus is on symmetrical gigabit access, which enables not only high download but also high upload speeds. In addition to infrastructure funding, the program line “GigaApp” promotes innovative, pre-competitive applications that help shape the future gigabit society. Financing is partly provided from European Union funds (NextGenerationEU) and national funds, with a total volume of 438 million euros.

Private individuals and companies in Vienna can submit funding applications electronically via the eCall portal until December 31, 2026. Eligible investments include construction measures for fiber optic expansion as well as the development and implementation of gigabit-capable applications. A prerequisite for grant approval is compliance with the special guidelines of the Broadband Strategy 2030 and a minimum own contribution in accordance with EU state aid law. Applications are submitted by means of a funding request and a detailed project description. By combining infrastructure and application funding, ARF – Broadband Austria 2030 offers an attractive framework to implement forward-looking digital projects in Vienna efficiently and sustainably.
