Diverse Wilderness – Discover Nature's Treasure Chamber

The project “Artenreich Wildnis” invites nature enthusiasts to document the hidden diversity of Brandenburg. In the wilderness areas of Jüterbog, Heidehof, Lieberose, and Tangersdorf, participants can discover plants, animals, and fungi along marked trails, capture them photographically, and submit them digitally. The initiative by the Stiftung Naturlandschaften Brandenburg aims to gather valuable data for biodiversity monitoring and to strengthen the environmental education efforts of the Wilderness Foundation. As a citizen science participation format, the program combines research & innovation, environmental and nature conservation, education, as well as training and further education in an open participation process that remains accessible until the end of 2026.

Participation takes place in four simple steps: observation from the path, optional species identification via common apps, photo upload, and form completion. Each validated report is included in the scientific evaluation and improves understanding of regional species distribution. Additionally, a raffle with attractive prizes – ranging from nature tours to specialist literature – encourages participants to upload their data. The project is aimed at all interested private individuals who wish to contribute to climate and nature conservation and offers an uncomplicated way to become part of a large-scale research network. Through continuous funding as a participation measure, the Stiftung Naturlandschaften Brandenburg supports societal engagement for a sustainable future and the preservation of biological diversity.
