Description
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports couples with infertility through financial subsidies for assisted reproduction measures. The aim of the initiative is to reduce the burden of personal contributions for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), thereby increasing the chances of successful treatment. Eligible to apply are married couples as well as heterosexual partnerships in a permanent non-marital cohabitation with their main residence in North Rhine-Westphalia. The subsidy covers the personal share of treatment costs, provided that the services are covered by the health insurance according to § 27a SGB V and the treatment is carried out in a regional reproductive facility.
The subsidy covers 25% to 50% of the personal contribution for up to four treatment cycles. For married couples, the subsidy amounts to up to 50% of the costs in all four cycles; unmarried partnerships receive 25% for the first three cycles and 50% in the fourth cycle. A maximum of up to €800 per IVF cycle and €900 per ICSI cycle is possible in the first to third cycles, as well as €1,600 (IVF) and €1,800 (ICSI) in the fourth cycle. Non-marital couples can claim an additional flat rate of 30% of the maximum amounts in the first to third cycles. Applications must be submitted continuously before the start of treatment to the Münster District Government. Proof required includes a medical assessment confirming the cohabitation, proof of main residence in NRW, and confirmation of treatment in an NRW facility.
