Description
The funding program "Development of a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy – Hydrogen Directive" supports companies, public institutions, and municipalities in Schleswig-Holstein in the development of sustainable technologies for the production, storage, and use of green hydrogen. This grant offering aims to advance innovative approaches in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energies, research, innovation, as well as environmental and nature conservation. The state of Schleswig-Holstein has set the goal of promoting the transition to climate-friendly energy sources through practical applications, thereby making a significant contribution to the energy and transport transition.
The funding is aimed at economically active organizations with headquarters, branches, or operating sites in Schleswig-Holstein that invest in the sustainable production of green hydrogen. Projects for the generation and storage of hydrogen, the expansion and development of facilities for the production of synthetic energy carriers based on green hydrogen, as well as for industrial and chemical applications, can be supported. Grants are awarded covering 40 to 50 percent of the eligible additional investment costs, with up to €5,000,000 payable per applicant and project. Particularly small enterprises can benefit from increased funding compared to larger companies.
The funding measure provides for a two-stage application process, in which a project outline is submitted first. After positive evaluation by the Economic Development and Technology Transfer Schleswig-Holstein GmbH (WTSH), applicants are invited to submit a formal funding application. Requirements include that investments are carried out exclusively in Schleswig-Holstein and that the project only commences after approval by WTSH. Additionally, the electricity used for production must come from renewable sources, and existing fields of application for the hydrogen or synthetic energy carriers must be demonstrated. Through this clear structure and the practical promotion of innovative technologies, the program creates an important impetus for the development of a forward-looking hydrogen economy in the region.
