Description

The Free State of Thuringia grants targeted subsidies under the Directive on Training and Further Education as well as Innovative Measures in the Wastewater Sector (AbwInnovRL) for pilot plants, pilot projects, and professional training and further education measures for employees in municipal and regional wastewater facilities. The aim is the sustainable improvement of water quality through technological innovations, qualified workforce development, and inter-municipal exchange of experience. Eligible for funding are public law entities such as municipalities, special-purpose associations, and water and soil associations, the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) e. V., as well as other legal entities under public and private law with a focus on wastewater. The funding covers infrastructure projects, environmental and nature conservation measures, as well as energy efficiency and climate protection projects in urban development, with subsidy rates ranging from 50% to 100% of eligible expenses. The continuous eligibility for funding allows for flexible planning and implementation of innovative concepts.

For a successful application, water law permits, reviewed preliminary planning documents, and detailed concepts for pilot projects, training, or seminars must be provided; additionally, the responsible ministry must endorse pilot projects in advance. Training measures require clear evidence of qualification needs and prospects for continued employment. The flat-rate subsidy amounts for the training of wastewater specialists are €7,700 in the 1st year of training, €4,600 in the 2nd year, and €1,500 in the 3rd year. Applications must be submitted to the Thuringian Development Bank (TAB) at least eight weeks before the start of the measure; regional contact points in Erfurt, Nordhausen, Gera, Eisenach, and Suhl provide support for technical questions. This funding promotes innovative procedures in the wastewater sector and secures qualified personnel in the long term for effective water protection.
