Description

The roll-up exhibition “Back to Life? Jews in Mecklenburg” presents the multifaceted post-war history of Jewish life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on 19 informative panels. Curated by Dr. Ulf Heinsohn and Jascha Lina Jennrich, it highlights central questions: the rebuilding of destroyed livelihoods, the restitution of confiscated artworks and businesses, the search for surviving relatives, and the founding of the Jewish Regional Community of Mecklenburg in 1946. Through historical documents, testimonies of persecution and emigration, as well as photographs, it becomes clear how political upheavals and social tensions shaped the lives of the survivors. Made from sturdy roll-ups, the easily transportable exhibition offers flexible deployment options for educational and cultural events with compact packaging and carrying handles on each panel.

Educational institutions, museums, memorial and cultural associations can borrow the exhibition free of charge and reduce it to selected panels if needed. Eligible for funding are non-profit and public institutions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that aim to convey the themes of remembrance culture and contemporary history. A prerequisite for borrowing is contact with the “Meeting Place for Jewish History and Culture” Foundation in Rostock, as well as the organization of transport and setup on site. Requests can be made at any time, as ongoing funding opportunities exist. This offer promotes understanding of Jewish life after 1945 and strengthens intercultural dialogue in the region.
