Description
The German Rheumatism Research Center Berlin (DRFZ) awards the Avrion Mitchison Prize 2026 to outstanding early-career scientists in the field of rheumatology. The prize recognizes publications or dissertations published or accepted for publication within the last 18 months that make a significant contribution to the understanding and treatment of rheumatic diseases. Eligible applicants are individuals who have completed their doctorate (PhD or MD) no more than three years prior. The award, endowed with 3,000 euros, honors the originality and relevance of the research work and promotes scientific progress in this important medical field.
Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2026, and must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file: the relevant publications, a summary of the work’s significance (maximum 800 characters including spaces), and a curriculum vitae. The award ceremony will take place in autumn as part of an event for World Rheumatism Day. The Avrion Mitchison Prize has been endowed by the DRFZ since 2019 and continues the honorable tradition of commemorating the founding director Avrion Mitchison (1928–2022). This award offers young researchers an excellent opportunity to present their scientific achievements to a broad professional audience and to sustainably strengthen rheumatological research in Germany.
