Funding objective
In the Preseed – Deep Tech module, entrepreneurial pre-startup and startup projects based on applied research and development are supported. The goal is to develop an initial proof of concept or prototype in order to transform technology projects with high scientific and technical demands into marketable products or processes.

Description
With the aws Preseed – Deep Tech Module, a grant is available throughout Austria for avant-garde deep tech startup projects, which are supported in the proof-of-concept and prototype stages based on TRL 3. Eligible for funding are innovative micro-enterprises and founders whose company was established no longer than six months ago. The goal is to make highly technological-scientific projects marketable. The funding covers up to 80% of project-related expenses – from personnel costs to third-party costs and capital expenditures – and up to 90% when applying the gender bonus. A maximum of €300,000 can be granted in tranches according to predefined milestones, with a minimum equity share of 10% (gender bonus: 5%) required.
Applications can be submitted continuously until 31.12.2025 via the aws Fördermanager, and the project duration is limited to 24 months. The technical evaluation by independent experts is conducted according to formal requirements and based on the criteria of degree of innovation, market potential, team qualifications, technological advantage, and sustainability aspects. Additionally, a sector-specific consulting service in the area of innovation protection complements the financial support. The aws Preseed Deep Tech Module promotes the early implementation phases of future technologies and provides impetus for strengthening the domestic research and innovation landscape.
