Description
BAföG (Student Financial Aid) – Studierendenwerk Göttingen supports students of all disciplines – including international prospective students – with low-interest loans to cover living expenses and educational costs. Funding includes, among other things, monthly need rates (up to €992 for those with their own apartment), health and long-term care insurance contributions, as well as a childcare allowance. A prerequisite for approval is the enrollment certificate (§ 9 BAföG) at the start of funding for applicants under 45 years of age, proof of income and assets of the applicants and, if applicable, their parents or spouses/partners, as well as academic progress from the fifth semester onwards (ECTS credits). The amount of funding depends on the individual income and asset situation as well as the academic progress achieved. Follow-up applications should be submitted no later than two months before the end of the approval period to ensure uninterrupted funding. There is the possibility of flexible application submission online or in paper form; loan portions are capped at €10,010 and repaid under favorable conditions.
Application counseling is provided by Studierendenwerk Göttingen on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the central cafeteria. Students can submit all required forms – Form 01 (Educational Funding), Form 02 (Enrollment Certificate), Form 03 (Income Declaration for Parents/Spouse/Partner), Form 04 (Child Declaration), and proof of income and assets – digitally via BAföG-Digital or by postal mail. Special regulations apply for international students and independent funding without parental support. Due to the nationwide uniform procedure, Studierendenwerk recommends submitting an informal continuation application at the start of studies and promptly providing any missing documents to avoid financial gaps. Further information on application deadlines, documents, and the repayment process is available directly from Studierendenwerk Göttingen.
