Description
Ballin Child Diagnostics Timmendorfer Strand is an inpatient diagnostic service of the Hamburg Child and Youth Welfare system, aimed at thoroughly determining the individual support needs of children with complex challenges. The program targets children up to nine years old (up to ten years in sibling constellations) for whom outpatient measures are insufficient. Each cycle can accommodate eight children for a period of nine weeks. The program takes place in Timmendorfer Strand, in close proximity to the Baltic Sea and surrounded by natural forest areas that offer diverse experiential educational opportunities. The service is funded through a grant from the Social Authority of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg within the ongoing funding framework of the Rudolf Ballin Foundation e.V.
Admission is by request from professionals at the Hamburg Youth Welfare Offices in close coordination with the legal guardians. A multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social pedagogues, educators, and medical staff provides around-the-clock pedagogical and diagnostic care for the children. The structured process includes a comprehensive family history, individual testing procedures, and observations in the group setting. Based on these findings, a written expert report is prepared to support youth welfare offices and families in further care planning. At the same time, legal guardians and professionals receive detailed counseling on transitioning to appropriate follow-up measures. Requests can be submitted at any time via the admission request form; there is no fixed deadline. This diagnostic service makes a valuable contribution to developing targeted and sustainable support concepts in cases of unclear initial situations or stagnating care progress.
