Funding objective
The Free State of Bavaria supports development projects related to the founding of technology-oriented companies and aims to build or strengthen the technological foundation of newly established small enterprises.

Description
The Bavarian funding program "Technology-Oriented Business Start-Ups" (BayTOU) supports technology-oriented founders as well as young small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bavaria in establishing or further developing the technological foundation of newly founded companies. Eligible applicants are individuals aiming to start a commercial business in the technology sector who possess the necessary technical expertise, as well as SMEs according to the EU definition that have been in existence for less than six years and employ no more than nine employees. Funded are development projects and conceptual work in experimental development characterized by a high degree of innovation and market-related competitive potential. The project must be carried out substantially within the Free State of Bavaria and involve a recognizable technical and economic risk.
Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant with a rate of 35% in the concept phase and up to 45% for the realization of development projects. Maximum amounts are €26,000 for conceptual work and €150,000 for software companies. Applicants must submit a detailed project outline including a utilization plan and provide an appropriate volume of own and third-party funds. Eligible expenses include flat rates for personnel costs, expenses for instruments and equipment, contract research, as well as patent and license fees and other operating costs. Applications can be submitted electronically on a rolling basis. BayTOU thus contributes to the creation of future-oriented jobs and to strengthening the competitiveness of the Bavarian economy.
