Meeting Benches

The Home Instead Foundation gGmbH supports the installation of meeting benches in public spaces nationwide with a funding amount of €500 per bench. The aim of the sponsorship is to promote social interactions and counteract loneliness – especially among older and mobility-impaired individuals. In central locations such as parks, waiting areas, or neighborhood paths, the seating is designed as recognizable meeting points to enable spontaneous contacts and encourage exchange between neighbors and passersby. Studies show that even brief conversations on these benches increase well-being and sustainably reduce the feeling of isolation. Local initiatives have already created numerous meeting places in this way, thereby contributing to strengthening social cohesion.

Funding can be applied for at any time by private individuals, non-profit organizations, companies, and public institutions. Interested applicants submit an informal application and, after review, receive full financing for one bench. The measure targets people at increased risk of social isolation – from seniors living at home to individuals with care or mobility limitations – as well as anyone wishing to create meeting places in their neighborhood. Through the low-threshold application process and continuously open deadline, this sponsorship provides a straightforward contribution to improving quality of life and strengthens community togetherness on site.
