Description
The funding supports owners of owner-occupied residential property in Hesse as well as their directly related persons with disabilities in making individual modifications according to DIN 18040-2 and designing the immediate living environment to be barrier-free. Eligible are structural adaptations, installations, and fittings that enable an independent and safe daily life – from level access to the installation of ramps and elevators to accessible sanitary facilities. The grant amounts to a flat rate of up to 50% of the eligible costs, with a maximum of €15,000 per housing unit. Applications can be submitted at any time to the responsible municipal housing promotion office; prior approval for the start of construction measures is not permitted.
Only measures on existing buildings are eligible; acquisitions or structural expansions are not considered. A prerequisite is undisputed ownership rights and the subsequent submission of the application form, proof of use, and proof of expenditure after completion of the work. A processing fee of 1% of the approved funding amount (minimum €25) is payable. The Economic and Infrastructure Bank of Hesse (WIBank), in coordination with the respective municipal council or district committee, is responsible for approving and disbursing the funds. Through the continuously open funding lines, demand-oriented solutions for barrier-free housing are promoted, thereby sustainably improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.
