Description

In Hesse, the continuously available Economic and Infrastructure Bank Funding "Barrier-Free Conversion of Residential Property" is aimed at private owners who wish to make owner-occupied living space accessible. Funding is provided for structural measures in accordance with DIN 18040 Part 2 as well as installations such as ramps, elevators, high-contrast markings, and adaptations in kitchens, bathrooms, stairs, and entrances. With a grant rate of up to 50%, costs of up to €15,000 per individual measure (maximum €30,000 per housing unit) can be covered. The prerequisite is that the living space is used by the owners or their relatives themselves and that the work is only commissioned after approval. Own contributions and measure costs under €1,500 are not eligible for funding.

The funding aims to enable people with disabilities to manage their households independently and have unrestricted mobility. Applications can be submitted year-round to the responsible housing promotion office of the respective district or independent city. The evaluation criteria include compliance with standards, suitability to needs, and owner-occupation of the living space. After completion of the work, payment is made in a lump sum based on the confirmed final invoice. A one-time processing fee of 1% of the requested grant, at least €25, is charged. This funding offers owners in Hesse an attractive opportunity to sustainably adapt existing properties and remove barriers – thereby making an important contribution to inclusive and self-determined living.
