Description

The allowance for subsistence is a nationwide funding instrument offered in Austria by the Public Employment Service (AMS) that financially supports unemployed individuals during labor market-relevant training and further education measures. Its objective is to ensure subsistence at least equivalent to the entitlement to unemployment benefits, thereby enabling unhindered participation in professional qualifications, career orientation, work trials and training, active job search measures, the business start-up program for the unemployed, as well as employment foundations. Designed as a grant, this funding exclusively covers subsistence and is granted with a funding rate of 100%. The funds are continuously available as long as the budget is not exhausted.

Eligible for funding are private individuals who, in consultation with the AMS, select a measure that sustainably improves their chances of placement and does not serve merely as a temporary bridge during unemployment. A prerequisite is prior contact with the AMS to verify the labor market relevance, as well as proof that the measure lasts at least one week and comprises at least 16 hours per week. Time- and location-independent, self-directed online courses without accompanying attendance periods are not eligible for funding. Applications can be submitted at any time via the eAMS account or in person at an AMS office, provided that funds are available. This targeted support plays a decisive role in assisting job seekers with their professional reorientation and reintegration into the labor market.
