Description
The funding program Contributions for Forest Roads in Vorarlberg provides grants for the construction of forest roads and accompanying infrastructure to adapt forests to climate change and sustainably strengthen their utilitarian, protective, welfare, and ecological functions. The funding aims to improve access to stands, make workflows in forest management more efficient and gentle, and reduce biotic consequential damages caused by windthrow, forest fires, and other hazard situations. Concurrently, the measure contributes to increasing productivity, wood quality, and labor income, and supports regional supply security with domestic raw wood. The mobilization of sustainable wood utilization reserves is additionally brought into focus, thereby aligning forest and climate objectives.
Eligible for funding are private individuals, cooperatives, interest groups, associations, and public institutions that are forest owners in Vorarlberg and manage their own forest areas. The funding rate ranges between 35% and 50% of eligible costs, depending on protective effect and public interest. A written application along with approval from the district authority is required. The program has been continuously open since 01.01.2011 and has no deadline. Documentation to be submitted includes, among others, plans, project description, area and cost breakdown, original invoices, proof of payment, timesheets, statutes, and official approval notices. Proper use of funds is ensured through document, plausibility, and on-site inspections to promote sustainable infrastructure measures for strengthening the forests.
