Description

In Styria, the state government promotes psychosocial care in external shared apartments for people with mental impairments through subsidies. This measure aims to stabilize individual resources and support independent living. Professionally qualified caregivers visit the community members in individually tailored group and individual sessions. The intensity of support is oriented towards the level of independence and the current condition. Assisted living follows the normalization principle and creates a balanced living environment that considers both communal activities and opportunities for retreat. Targeted interventions counteract social isolation, promote reintegration into the social environment, and strive for a long-term improvement in quality of life.

Eligible for funding are companies as well as non-profit organizations that, as private disability institutions, possess an official approval and a valid written service contract with the Styrian state government. The funding is aimed at adults with acute and/or chronic mental and psychiatric impairments or psychosocial difficulties who require a housing-structuring offer. Applications can be submitted at any time, as this is an ongoing funding opportunity. The goal is the recovery of personal and economic competencies, social learning in small groups, psychosocial stabilization, and isolation prophylaxis. In the long term, inpatient hospital stays are to be reduced and transitions to more independent forms of living prepared.
