Description
The Education and Participation Package supports children, adolescents, and young adults from low-income households in Bremen who receive social benefits such as Bürgergeld, social assistance, asylum seeker benefits, housing allowance, or child supplement. The aim of this 100% grant is equal participation in school and social life. The benefits include coverage of costs for lunch in daycare centers and schools, provision of school supplies (e.g., school bags, notebooks, pens), as well as contributions for sports, cultural, and recreational activities. Furthermore, excursions, class trips, and, if necessary, tutoring outside of school are supported. For young adults aged 18 and over, travel costs can additionally be covered if there is a significant distance to the educational institution.
Applications can be submitted at any time and can be made retroactively for up to 12 months, provided housing allowance or child supplement is received. Proof of benefit receipt (Bürgergeld according to SGB II, social assistance/basic security according to SGB XII, Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, Housing Allowance Act, or Federal Child Benefit Act) as well as the completed application form for the Education Package and, if applicable, a school certificate for tutoring must be submitted. After reviewing the documents, a Bremen Pass is issued, through which eligible individuals can directly access the benefits. This offer ensures that all young people in Bremen, regardless of their family’s financial situation, can participate in educational opportunities and leisure activities, thereby supporting their development in the best possible way.
