Description
The three-year educational program “Ich will” by the Wolfgang and Regina Böllhoff Foundation is aimed at motivated students from the second semester of 8th grade up to the first semester of 11th grade, as well as young people currently undergoing vocational training. At the locations in Bielefeld (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Finsterwalde (Brandenburg), a total of around 80 participants receive a combination of practice-oriented workshops, individual mentorships by committed mentors, and needs-based remedial instruction. The subject-specific training imparts not only learning and work techniques but also social skills, while company visits and excursions provide insights into various professional fields. Volunteer mentors accompany each young person over three years, build trusting relationships, and support the successful transition from school to training or employment. The remedial instruction also specifically strengthens academic performance to develop realistic career aspirations and achieve the best possible graduation.
The program promotes equitable education by specifically focusing on willingness to perform, motivation, as well as academic and personal development. Eligible applicants are private individuals who demonstrate through a letter of application, current academic records, and a consent form from their legal guardians that they are actively shaping their educational path. Applications are accepted continuously, as the program is offered as a subsidy measure over 36 months. Evaluation criteria include commitment, motivation, and personal growth. Through this holistic support, young people are empowered in their self-efficacy and receive individual perspectives for a successful training and career path.
