Description
The federal funding program for electric cargo bikes supports private companies of all legal forms, cooperatives, freelancers, as well as public law corporations and institutions in the acquisition of brand-new electric cargo bikes and electric cargo trailers. The goal is the sustainable strengthening of bicycle-based freight transport in industry, trade, commerce, and services through electric drive assistance. Only models that are mass-produced, have a permissible total weight of at least 170 kg, and provide pedal assistance up to a maximum of 250 W are eligible for funding. Used vehicles, leasing models, S-cargo pedelecs, as well as bikes intended for passenger transport or private use are excluded.
The funding is provided as a non-repayable grant amounting to 25% of the acquisition costs, but no more than €3,500 per electric cargo bike or trailer. Applications can be submitted via the BAFA portal from October 1, 2024, as long as budget funds are available. Prerequisites include application submission prior to commissioning, proof of commercial or freelance activity, as well as a current offer and a brief project description of the intended use. If the desired model is not listed in the positive list, a technical product data sheet must also be submitted. With this funding measure, the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control makes a significant contribution to energy efficiency and climate protection in commercial transport.
