Description

The Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings – Heating Support for Companies – Residential Buildings (grant number 459) supports companies, legal entities, and contractors in converting existing residential buildings in Germany to climate-friendly heating technology. Funding is provided for the purchase and installation of heat pumps, biomass heating systems, solar thermal systems, fuel cell heating systems, hydrogen-capable systems, as well as connection to building or heat networks. Grants amount to up to 30% of eligible expenses; combined with an efficiency bonus (5% for electric heat pumps) or an emissions reduction surcharge (€2,500 for biomass systems), the funding rate can increase to a maximum of 35%. Additionally, measures for heating optimization (hydraulic balancing, pump replacement) are funded at 15%, and professional planning by qualified energy efficiency experts is subsidized at 50%. The funding volume per residential building is capped: for heating systems, up to €30,000 for the first residential unit and, scaled by residential unit share, €15,000 or €8,000 respectively; professional planning is capped at €20,000. Each application has a project period of 36 months; there is no legal entitlement.

Applications must be submitted online before the start of construction work via the “Meine KfW” portal; a suspensive condition must be included in the delivery/service contract. For application submission, a confirmation of the application (BzA) by an energy efficiency expert or specialist contractor, as well as invoice evidence of material and labor costs, must be provided. An increased funding rate (iSFP bonus) is granted for individual measures implemented within 15 years after the creation of a funded individual renovation roadmap. The funding runs until the end of 2030; relevant documents must be retained for ten years. This initiative contributes to increasing energy efficiency and expanding renewable energies and promotes the decarbonization of the residential building stock in Germany.
