Description
The Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings supports companies and public institutions nationwide in replacing or retrofitting outdated heating systems in residential buildings with modern, highly efficient, and renewable heat technologies. With a grant amounting to 30% to 35% of eligible expenses, the program finances investment costs for new heating systems as well as planning, installation, and verification costs. A prerequisite for funding is ownership or operator status of a residential building in Germany, compliance with technical minimum requirements, and execution of the measure by certified specialist companies. Applications can be submitted continuously until federal funds are exhausted.
Companies of all sectors and sizes benefit from this funding measure if the project increases technical efficiency and utilizes renewable energies. To apply, a detailed project description including technical planning as well as a breakdown of investment costs is required—supported by cost estimates and evidence of efficiency improvements. A usage report upon completion of the measure completes the documentation. Selection is based on the technical efficiency of the planned measure and the share of renewable energies. The funding agency is the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in cooperation with KfW Bankengruppe, which, drawing on its long-standing experience in financing climate-friendly projects, manages processing and advisory services.
