Description
The Documentation Center Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation calls on private individuals nationwide to contribute personal memories and eyewitness accounts of flight, expulsion, and forced migration to its permanently maintained eyewitness archive. Reports, diaries, letters, photos, and other documents reflecting individual experiences are sought. With this ongoing collection appeal, the multifaceted picture of German and European memory history is to be enriched by private perspectives. Contributions can be submitted at any time and offer the opportunity to become part of a diverse mosaic that brings historical events closer to future generations.
The funding objective is to preserve the authenticity of personal experiences and select them based on clear evaluation criteria—primarily authenticity and relevance to the eyewitness archive. Interested participants should describe existing materials and provide information on the scope and type of documents. A prerequisite is the existence of personal or family memories related to flight, expulsion, or resettlement and the willingness to submit these in writing. In this way, a valuable collective memory is created that can be used in exhibitions, research projects, and educational formats. The project actively promotes exchange about historical experiences and contributes to the culture of remembrance in Germany without any deadline—every experience counts.
