Description

The program “chance.natur – Federal Funding for Nature Conservation (Large-Scale Nature Conservation Projects)” supports large-scale projects throughout Germany, particularly in Brandenburg, aimed at the permanent protection and development of near-natural habitats and cultural landscapes of outstanding ecological significance. Eligible for funding are public institutions, non-profit organizations, foundations, interest groups, and other associations that are professionally, personnel-wise, and financially capable of planning, implementing, and sustainably maintaining extensive nature conservation measures. With a funding rate of up to 75 percent, expenses for maintenance and development planning, moderation, purchase, exchange and lease of land, compensation payments, expert reports, habitat management, information measures, evaluations, as well as personnel and material costs are supported. The project duration can be up to 120 months, with funding applied for separately in two project-related phases (planning and implementation).

The process begins with the submission of a project outline to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). After a positive preliminary review, the application can be submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development, Environment and Consumer Protection (MLEUV) Brandenburg. Selection is based on the criteria of representativeness, naturalness, large-scale extent, threat level, and exemplary character. Application documents include, in addition to the outline, a maintenance and development plan, financing plan, and proof of professional qualification. Since funding is continuously available, suitable projects can be prepared and submitted at any time. This comprehensive funding instrument makes a significant contribution to the preservation of biological diversity and the protection of the national natural heritage.
