Description

Within the framework of the "Science Communication" module, the Carl Zeiss Foundation provides supplementary funds to effectively present research and innovation projects it supports to a broad public. Funding is granted for comprehensive concepts including press work, social media strategies, podcasts, video and animation productions, exhibition concepts, or event series. Up to €40,000 per year can be allocated for personnel with communication expertise, student assistants, agency and service provider fees, travel and accommodation costs, as well as honoraria for speakers. The duration is at least 12 and up to 72 months, aligned with the project period of the main undertaking. Applications can be submitted at any time; full proposals must be submitted no later than 12 months before the project end. Review rounds take place quarterly, with submissions required at least six months before the start of the communication measure.

Project leaders of currently funded CZS projects as well as recipients of individual funding (postdocs, junior research group leaders, junior professors, foundation professors) are eligible to apply, provided that no funds for science communication have yet been approved in the main project. Selection criteria include the objectives of the measures, their alignment with the research and target audience, a realistic resource plan, and a comprehensible documentation of results. To apply, the application form, a detailed financing plan, a consent form for data processing, and a letter of support from the communication unit must be submitted. This enables the foundation to facilitate professional dissemination of research findings and strengthens the visibility of innovative projects among the interested public.
