Description

The Daniel Haufler Scholarship "Journey into the Media Society USA" of the taz Panter Foundation enables journalists from Germany to undertake a one-month study trip to the USA. From late September to mid-October 2026, the selected participants will explore Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York to analyze transatlantic media structures and journalistic practice on site. The grant covers travel expenses, accommodation, and program fees and promotes exchange with US editorial offices, universities, and civil society initiatives. The goal is to gain critical perspectives and professional impulses for reporting on media societies and to build an international network.

Funding is provided to freelance and permanently employed journalists with completed journalistic training or comparable professional experience who have already demonstrated journalistic quality and thematic relevance. In the selection process, the applicants' expertise, the conceptual clarity of the project outline, and practical experience play a central role. The project start is scheduled from September 27, 2026; the funding is provided as a non-repayable grant. Interested journalists can obtain the application documents exclusively via the taz Panter Foundation’s website. The initiative is aimed at media professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge in training and further education, gain new impulses for reporting, and establish long-term transatlantic partnerships.
