Description

German Dementia Aid – DZNE Foundation for Brain and Health enables continuous funding of promising research projects across the entire spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases. With privately raised funds, targeted studies on dementia, Parkinson’s, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) are supported. Public institutions can make donations at any time to either flexibly promote urgent research concerns or specifically strengthen one of the foundation’s funds for dementia, Parkinson’s, or ALS. Additionally, programs such as the Innovative Minds Program, the Brain Health Program, and technology transfer initiatives are available to showcase and translate innovative approaches in prevention, diagnosis, and therapy into practice. Each year, the advisory board decides on the allocation of funds, with an expert panel evaluating applications based on innovation potential, societal relevance, and scientific methodology.

The funding is aimed at researchers and research teams at the DZNE who develop novel concepts for early detection, prevention, or treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The foundation offers both seed funding for early-career projects and annual grants from special foundation funds. The goal is to advance long-term effective therapeutic approaches and tailored diagnostic procedures, thereby increasing the contribution of science to patient well-being. A targeted donation accelerates both knowledge gain and practical application by enabling research projects that would not be feasible without private commitment. Interested institutions can pledge their support at any time and thus make a decisive contribution to the future of neurological research.
