Description
Digital Europe promotes the comprehensive digital transformation in the EU, focusing on five key thematic areas: the expansion of high-performance computing centers, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills, and the optimal use of digital capacities – from infrastructure projects to smart applications in the cultural and creative sectors. The goal is to make modern digital infrastructures accessible across Europe, build technical expertise, and establish common data spaces, such as a “European Common Data Space for Cultural Heritage.” This aims to digitally preserve, reuse, and make artistic and cultural content accessible to a broad public. Furthermore, the program supports continuing education formats in which new training methods are developed for students, IT professionals, freelancers, and SMEs, and strengthens the digital professionalization of cultural and creative practitioners.
Grant applications are funded from companies, public and educational institutions, and non-profit organizations headquartered in an eligible EU member state that contribute to at least one of the program’s priorities. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research institutions, and actors in the cultural and creative sectors can submit funding applications continuously. Requirements include proof of contribution to the objectives and fulfillment of formal criteria in the respective work program. Currently, no open calls are published; new funding rounds are announced regularly. With this flexible funding structure, the program enables long-term planning security and supports actors at various levels in successfully advancing the digital transformation in Europe.
