Description
Digital Offensive Saxony 2023 – RL DiOS 2023 is an innovative funding program that supports public institutions in the Free State of Saxony and is at the forefront of digital infrastructure development. This funding instrument is specifically aimed at local authorities such as municipalities, districts, and municipal associations that wish to advance the expansion of gigabit-capable broadband networks in underserved regions. Through supplementary grants to the federal funds of the Gigabit-RL 2.0, the expansion of modern data connections is promoted while simultaneously improving access to public Wi-Fi in touristically relevant areas.
The initiative aims to sustainably advance digital transformation in Saxony by enabling the comprehensive expansion of high-speed broadband networks and equipping public spaces with modern hotspots. Eligible expenses include various investment costs such as consulting services, procurement of hardware and software, installation costs, as well as measures to bridge profitability gaps and develop operating models. In addition to technical upgrades, increasing the digital attractiveness of public spaces is also emphasized, which particularly strengthens touristically relevant regions in the long term.
The funding is provided as a non-repayable grant and covers 100 percent of eligible expenses, provided the necessary conditions are met. Only public institutions within the project area are eligible to apply, and a preliminary funding approval under the Gigabit-RL 2.0 as well as a detailed financing plan must be submitted. The funds from this program are explicitly intended as additional support and are not meant to replace existing public financing options. The program is valid from August 22, 2023 to June 30, 2026 and thus offers long-term funding opportunities that effectively support municipalities and other public bodies in implementing forward-looking digitalization projects.
