Funding objective
The focus is on transformation-oriented research, technology, and innovation promotion (RTI) in the field of digital and key technologies that address societal challenges. Funding is provided for innovative technology, product, process, and system developments as well as demonstration projects for the implementation of transformation solutions in the economy and society. Additionally, competence and capacity building, including qualification and gender equality in the RTI sector, is strengthened.

Funding requirements
- Eligible are natural or legal persons or partnerships outside the Austrian federal administration.
- Aid recipients must have a place of business or branch in Austria at the time of payment.
- In consortium projects, at least one partner must have a branch in Austria, and the benefit of the foreign partners for the consortium or Austria must be demonstrated.
- Civil law partnerships (GesbR) are not eligible to apply due to lack of legal capacity.
- Financial security of the project must be demonstrated through a cost, time, and financing plan.

Description
The funding initiative "Digital and Key Technologies" in Vienna focuses on transformation-oriented R&D projects that address pressing societal challenges. The emphasis is on innovative technology, product, process, and system developments as well as demonstration projects that advance the use of digital key technologies in the economy and society. Additionally, competence and capacity building are strengthened by embedding qualification measures, support for young talent, as well as diversity and equality in the R&D sector. The funding is provided as a non-repayable grant with a total volume of 198 million euros. It supports projects that contribute to European technological sovereignty, develop AI ecosystems, promote semiconductor innovations, or provide solutions for demographic change, climate protection, and societal resilience. The goal is to sustainably accelerate the green and digital transformation of specific industries and to strengthen the international networking of Austrian R&D actors.
Eligible applicants include natural and legal persons outside the federal administration, start-ups, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, as well as public and private entities with a place of business or branch in Austria. Consortium projects with foreign partners are possible, provided the benefit to the domestic economic and research location is demonstrated. A prerequisite for application is a coherent cost, time, and financing plan that proves the economic viability and insolvency freedom of the applicants. Submissions are possible from 01.01.2024 to 31.12.2026. Thus, the program offers a forward-looking opportunity to demonstrate innovative research results in practice and to sustainably strengthen Austria as a technology location.
