Direct Assistance (Young Carer / Windschatten Berlin)

Within the framework of the Young Carer Center WINDSCHATTEN Berlin, the Ernst Freiberger Foundation supports children and young people up to 21 years of age who take on caregiving and support responsibilities in the family beyond the usual age-appropriate level through the program "Direct Assistance." Targeted financial grants are provided to alleviate everyday burdens, strengthen social participation, and enable educational and health services. The offer is aimed at young people residing or receiving care in Berlin who can document their caregiving situation with formal proof and provides straightforward support through simple application procedures—digital or postal. With this, the Ernst Freiberger Foundation contributes to ensuring that young carers do not have to neglect their circle of friends, leisure activities, and education.

Expenses such as membership fees for sports or music clubs, household help, concert and cinema tickets, tutoring, as well as other educational services or financial grants for birthday celebrations are funded at 100 percent. Evaluation is based on the urgency of relief, age-appropriate support, and contribution to social participation. Required are a completed "Direct Assistance" application form and a cost statement with supporting receipts. Since applications can be submitted continuously, the program ensures ongoing assistance without fixed deadlines. Through this funding offer, the foundation takes an important step toward enabling young people in challenging family situations to enjoy a carefree childhood and youth.
