Dissertation Prize in Environmental Energy Law (Study and Dissertation Program in Environmental Energy Law)

Every two years, the Environmental Energy Law Foundation awards the prestigious Environmental Energy Law Dissertation Prize in recognition of outstanding legal doctoral theses. The prize honors dissertations in the fields of environmental energy law, climate protection law, and sustainable energy supply law, written in German or English and graded magna cum laude or summa cum laude. The award is endowed with a funding amount of €5,000 and acknowledges both scientific excellence and the relevance of the dissertation for the advancement of the legal framework in climate protection and sustainable energy supply. The selection of the laureates is carried out by a panel of renowned experts who carefully evaluate the quality and innovative strength of the submitted works. The next award ceremony is scheduled for 2027.

Eligible to participate are doctoral candidates who have completed their doctorate within the two preceding years and have achieved particularly outstanding results. The call for applications is open nationwide to individuals who have submitted a dissertation in environmental energy law or related disciplines. The evaluation focuses especially on the scientific content, practical applicability, and forward-looking significance of the research findings. The award aims to promote young researchers and provide impetus for sustainable energy and environmental policy. In addition to financial support, awardees gain visibility within the professional community and the opportunity to further establish their research topic in both academia and practice.
