Description
The program "Efficient and Low-CO₂ Waste Heat Utilization" of the State of Hesse supports companies, universities, research and scientific institutions, municipal authorities, as well as non-profit organizations and cooperatives in investments that utilize unavoidable waste heat and sustainably reduce CO₂ emissions. Funding is provided for installations such as waste heat collection systems, heat exchangers, heat pumps, transport pipelines, and facilities for conversion into electricity. The goal is a green, low-CO₂ transition to a climate-neutral economy. A high annual performance factor of heat pumps, efficient insulation of pipelines, and low supply temperatures ensure maximum climate protection impact. The projected CO₂ reduction must reach at least 250 g per euro of funding. Projects with eligible costs below €400,000 are excluded.
The non-repayable grant covers 40% to 65% of eligible expenses (material and overhead costs) exempted under the EU State Aid Regulation. Applications can be submitted continuously via the digital customer portal of the Wirtschafts- und Infrastrukturbank Hessen. Technical support is provided by the HA Hessen Agentur, which evaluates the project outline and description and consults an advisory committee. After technical and formal review, the granting authority decides within the framework of available funds. Submissions are possible at any time; fund disbursements occur upon proof of incurred expenses. The funding approval stipulates a two-year commitment period for investment measures. For transparency, project details, funding amounts, and achieved CO₂ savings are publicly disclosed in accordance with EU guidelines. Interested parties can find more information about the "Waste Heat Utilization" program on Innovationsförderung Hessen.
