Description
Under the title Smart regions – Integrated regional development through CLLD, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in Vienna supports bottom-up strategies for sustainable regional development. Stakeholders from interest groups, associations, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and businesses are invited to design participatory projects that pool local competencies and promote innovative solutions. Through the Community-Led Local Development approach, content is developed and implemented jointly with the local population. The participatory nature ensures the inclusion of diverse interest groups and emphasizes the use of existing local knowledge. This strengthens citizens’ identification with development processes and promotes long-term implementation success. Key areas of action include urban-rural cooperation, measures to address the climate crisis, and integrated location development, with economic, social, and ecological aspects equally considered. By linking innovative ideas with traditional know-how, more resilient structures emerge in urban and peri-urban areas.
Initiative-driven projects in the fields of regional development, smart cities & regions, climate protection, agriculture & rural development, digitalization, as well as energy efficiency & climate protection are funded. A prerequisite for application is submission within Measure 5 of the IBW/ERDF & JTF 2021-2027 program and a regional connection to the Vienna metropolitan area. Municipalities, local initiatives, and civil society actors can submit applications from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2029. The involvement of stakeholders from business, administration, and civil society ensures synergies and guarantees a practice-oriented approach. The funding amount, granted as a non-repayable subsidy, can cover both personnel and material project costs, thereby significantly contributing to the realization of impactful measures. With a total budget of approximately €6.94 million, the program contributes to strengthening regional cohesion, improving quality of life, and enhancing the long-term resilience of the Vienna regions.
