Description
The R&D project funding EFRE/JTF 2021–2027 of the Saxon Development Bank–Promotional Bank (SAB) is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as research institutions with headquarters or business premises in Saxony. The objective is the development of new or improved products and processes to strengthen the innovation capacity and competitiveness of the Saxon economy. Technology-oriented individual projects of SMEs are supported, as well as collaborative projects that involve effective cooperation with research institutions or other companies. Furthermore, projects focusing on the establishment and validation of pilot lines in future fields such as environment, digitalization, energy, mobility, or health can be funded. Funding requirements include, among others, a utilization concept to demonstrate market viability, proof of novelty of the research subject, and approval for early project commencement.
Funding is provided in the form of non-repayable grants with funding rates between 20% and 80% of eligible costs. Eligible costs include, among others, personnel costs, instrumental equipment, building depreciation, contract research, technological knowledge (licenses/patents), material and overhead flat rates, as well as patent application costs. SMEs can additionally claim up to 60% of patent costs. Projects should generally be completed within 36 months. Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis; an application for a non-detrimental project start may be submitted prior to approval. Evaluation is based, among other criteria, on the degree of innovation, collaborative effect, and contribution to climate protection and sustainability. Required documents include project description, financing plan, utilization concept, CVs, and evidence of offers or third-party funding. Detailed conditions are published in the “Supplementary Conditions for Project Funding under EFRE/JTF” on the SAB website.
