Description
The Einstein Berlin/HUJI Research Projects funding line enables excellent, cross-border collaborations between Berlin universities or the Charité and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI). Innovative projects in the fields of natural, life, engineering, social and behavioral sciences, as well as humanities and cultural studies, are supported over a period of up to three years. The Einstein Foundation Berlin provides an average of around €600,000 for this purpose. Funding is exclusively granted for personnel and material resources as well as investments at the Berlin partner institution; overhead or incidental costs and expenses outside Berlin (with the exception of HUJI) are not eligible. The goal is to sustainably strengthen the Berlin science location while simultaneously expanding international research alliances at the highest level. Application deadlines and detailed requirements can be found in the dates published annually by the Foundation.
Only professors from the five eligible Berlin institutions (Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, Technische Universität, Universität der Künste, and Charité) are eligible to apply. Core prerequisites include a clearly justified cooperation with HUJI, positive endorsements from the university or institute leadership, and proof that no other funding organization is applicable. Submitted applications must be written in English and include, in addition to a detailed project and work plan, a financing and expenditure plan according to the Foundation’s guidelines. Evaluation criteria include scientific excellence, the strategic benefit for Berlin, and the high-risk/high-reward nature of the research projects. This funding is aimed at all those who, through bold, innovative approaches, have the potential to generate new research impulses and increase Berlin’s international visibility.
