Individual Assistance from the German AIDS Foundation

The German AIDS Foundation grants one-time subsidies nationwide for people living with HIV/AIDS in Germany who are in existential distress and whose acute needs are not covered by third-party benefits. The financial assistance covers necessary expenses such as rent arrears, living costs, or medical expenses that would not be manageable without additional support. Since the grants are awarded subsidiarily to public benefits, prior application for existing entitlements from the social welfare office, job center, or health insurance is mandatory. There is no legal entitlement to funding, and costs incurred before the application cannot be reimbursed retroactively. The continuously open funding opportunities allow for flexible application submission without fixed deadlines.

Eligible to apply are private individuals residing in Germany with a confirmed HIV/AIDS diagnosis who comprehensively explain their hardship and prove that no other benefits apply. Submission must include a fully completed application form, detailed proof of income and expenses, a cost breakdown with estimates, as well as an original medical certificate confirming the HIV infection. Upon positive review, approval and disbursement of funds are made by the Foundation. Applicants are encouraged to document the use of the grant and to properly settle previous applications if further support is needed. This unbureaucratic individual assistance offers affected persons immediate and targeted support in critical life situations.
