Description
The thematically open funding program of the Austrian Science Fund is aimed at researchers from all disciplines at universities, universities of applied sciences, and research institutions in Austria. It offers a high degree of flexibility to enable methodological and substantive pioneering work. Individual projects with a duration of up to 48 months are supported, with project-related personnel and material resources able to be requested. Through the continuously open submission portal elane, research projects can be registered at any time, facilitating short planning cycles and rapid project development.
A prerequisite for application is the appropriate scientific qualification of the project leader as well as the implementation at a location in Austria with the necessary infrastructure. Allocation is based on an international peer-review evaluation, focusing particularly on scientific excellence, the relevance of the research question, and feasibility. The decision is made by the FWF Board of Trustees; if necessary, additional co-funding can be integrated via the Matching-Funds Initiative. This program thus offers researchers the opportunity to independently conduct innovative basic research and engage intensively with specific questions without having to accept thematic restrictions.
