Description
The Ems Fund of the Lower Saxony Bingo Environmental Foundation represents a designated special fund specifically used to improve the overall ecological situation in the Ems-Dollart region. Funding is exclusively provided to tax-privileged, non-profit corporations (e.g., associations, foundations, non-profit limited liability companies) as well as public law entities and institutions (e.g., municipalities, educational institutions) with headquarters or project locations in Lower Saxony. The focus is on the preservation and development of valuable species and habitats along the Ems – from tide-influenced freshwater and brackish water zones to fore-dike areas and old river arms. The program primarily supports measures that directly and measurably contribute to the implementation of Natura 2000 objectives and achieve a long-term improvement in water quality, habitat structure, and biodiversity.
Projects must make a measurable contribution according to the ecological guideline of the Ems and fall within the designated funding framework. Grants are provided for planning, implementation, and monitoring measures that include reduction of suspended solids, reintroduction of estuarine-typical species, as well as watercourse renaturation and habitat connectivity. Decisions are made on an ongoing basis, with applications up to €5,000 to be submitted four weeks before project commencement; longer deadlines and committee decisions apply for higher amounts. Required documents for the application include the application form, project description, cost and financing plan, proof of non-profit status, and landowner consent declarations. The Foundation evaluates the relevance to the ecological guideline of the Ems, the feasibility of Natura 2000 objectives, and the measurability of results to ensure sustainable funding of nature and water protection projects in the Lower Saxony Ems region.
