Description
Energy-Efficient Hospitals and Rehabilitation Clinics promotes comprehensive nationwide improvements to reduce energy consumption in Austrian healthcare facilities. With an investment cost subsidy of up to 50%, thermal renovations, optimization of heat, steam, domestic hot water, and cooling supply, as well as other energy efficiency measures (such as lighting, ventilation systems, pumps, or control technology) are supported. The funding rate depends on the applicant's status: non-profit clinics receive 50%, SMEs up to 50%, medium-sized enterprises 40%, and large enterprises 30% of the eligible additional costs. Applications can be submitted continuously and no later than December 31, 2050.
Eligible are companies, non-profit organizations, and public institutions that operate or own hospitals or rehabilitation clinics according to the KAKuG. A prerequisite for approval is an early funding application before the start of construction or order placement, submission of an overall energy concept, and proof of energy savings of at least 30% or 250 MWh per year. Also required is operational use as a hospital or rehabilitation clinic for at least ten years. Eligible costs include additional investment costs, planning costs, installation costs, and technical components. Eligible heating systems include highly efficient local/district heating connections, wood pellet and wood chip boilers, heat pumps, as well as thermal solar systems in combination. Excluded are medical devices, extensions for bed expansion, mobility measures, and in-house personnel services. Selection is based on the amount of energy savings, environmental effectiveness, economic efficiency, and planning quality; the evaluation by the KPC in coordination with the Environmental Funding Commission takes place several times a year. Detailed documents such as energy certificates, cost estimates, and data sheets must be submitted with the online application to the KPC.
