Description
Since 2004, the Saxon State Media Authority (SLM) has continuously supported small and medium-sized production companies based in the Free State of Saxony within the framework of supplementary cultural film funding. The aim is to accompany creative minds and established filmmakers in the realization of professional film and TV productions, promoting culturally and historically significant, experimental, and pioneering formats. Projects that strengthen young talents and enrich the diversity of the Saxon media landscape are particularly honored. To date, over 240 documentary, short, and animated films have been produced with a funding volume of around 2.8 million euros, many of which have been featured at renowned festivals and received national as well as international recognition.
Funding rounds take place three times a year and are aligned with the meetings of the Media Council. Eligible to apply are private film and television production companies with their main office in Saxony, whose projects are predominantly implemented with employees based in the Free State. Key evaluation criteria include the promotion of young talent, the setting of high-quality standards, the development of innovative program formats, and a cooperation commitment from a Saxon TV broadcaster. Since 2015, additional funding of the co-production share from local TV providers has enabled even stronger networking between producers and broadcast media partners. Interested companies from the Saxon film industry find here a reliable source of financing to successfully realize demanding and culturally relevant projects.
