Description

In Saarland, there is an ongoing grant program for the preservation and restoration of historic buildings in accordance with monument protection standards, offered by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MBK) in cooperation with the State Monument Office. Funding is provided to owners and authorized persons who care for a cultural monument protected under the Saarland Monument Protection Act. The state subsidy covers up to 10% of eligible costs and is limited to a maximum of €10,000 per individual measure. Applications can be submitted at any time, but always prior to the start of the measure; approval is granted within the framework of available budgetary funds and requires monument or building law approval or coordination with the State Monument Office.

The primary funding objective is the preservation of the historic building stock and the restoration of formerly existing individual elements. Additionally eligible for funding are conservation and restoration works on architecture-related art, the securing of above-ground archaeological findings, the cultivation of historic gardens, as well as accompanying building surveys, documentation, and expert reports. Pure maintenance measures are excluded. Applicants must submit, in addition to the fully completed grant application, trade-specific cost estimates, photographs for condition documentation, monument law approvals, and evidence of own funds and third-party funding. If budget limits are exceeded, additional construction budget documents must be submitted. Early coordination with the State Monument Office is recommended to ensure the eligibility of individual items and to guarantee a smooth project process.
