Description
The Erich Kästner Prize honors outstanding individuals from politics, business, culture, or other public sectors every two years, whose work significantly contributes to the promotion of tolerance, humanity, and international understanding. The award is presented by the Presseclub Dresden e. V. in cooperation with the Stiftung Presseclub Dresden and targets candidates with a clearly recognizable connection to the city of Dresden. Members of the Presseclub Dresden e. V. may submit proposals by September 30, including a written justification. An independent jury reviews the nominations received and compiles a recommendation, which is decided upon by the regular general assembly.
In addition to a certificate and an honorary prize, the awardees receive a monetary prize of 10,000 euros, which is earmarked for a social, cultural, or charitable project. This recognition honors outstanding commitment to social cohesion and democracy. The ceremonial award presentation usually takes place in the second quarter of the following year during a formal event and provides a platform to raise public awareness of the importance of humanistic values and initiatives promoting international understanding.
